Warehouse Cleaning in Totton: FareShare Case Study

This historic EC Cleaners case study records warehouse deep cleaning at FareShare in Totton, Hampshire. The surviving record covers warehouse floors, high-level ceilings, fridge tops, windows and carpets within a food-distribution facility.

The project brought several cleaning tasks together across warehouse, office and kitchen areas. It illustrates the scope and access questions to consider when requesting a similar warehouse clean in Southampton or Hampshire; no current FareShare contract is claimed.

For warehouses, food-distribution sites and production environments, send photographs, floor areas, high-level requirements and shutdown or access constraints with the enquiry. The operating environment often determines the right contractor capability.

Project at a glance

A multi-area clean inside a working distribution facility.

The archive records a large warehouse with office and kitchen areas, so the cleaning instruction covered different surface types, heights and operational zones rather than one repeatable task.

Large warehouse environment

The project took place inside a food-distribution facility with active storage, handling and staff areas.

High-level work

The recorded scope included high-level ceiling cleaning and hard-to-reach areas.

Multiple cleaning disciplines

Windows, fridge tops, carpets and warehouse floors all formed part of the project.

Operational hand-back

A final inspection was recorded after the cleaning so missed or incomplete areas could be addressed before hand-back.

The cleaning scope

Different parts of the facility needed different methods and access planning.

The project record describes cleaning across high-level surfaces, fridge tops, windows, carpets and the warehouse floor. That mix is commercially important because contractor capability needs to match both the cleaning task and the environment in which it is being performed.

High-level ceilings

Elevated areas required suitable high-level cleaning capability rather than routine reachable cleaning.

Fridge tops & hard-to-reach surfaces

Accumulated dust, grime and residue were recorded on surfaces that normal daily cleaning may not routinely reach.

Warehouse floors

The archive describes sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, polishing and buffing across the warehouse floor.

Windows & carpets

Internal and external window cleaning and carpet cleaning formed separate elements within the same wider project.

The operational challenge

A distribution site cannot be treated like an empty warehouse.

Food distribution introduces stock, trolleys, refrigeration, vehicle or loading activity, staff circulation and hygiene-sensitive areas. The cleaning programme therefore needs to fit around the way the building actually operates.

Access routesCleaning equipment needs a practical route through storage, loading and staff areas without creating unnecessary conflict with operations.
High-level workHeight, floor space and surrounding racking or equipment can affect the access method and safe work zone.
Floor availabilityMachine cleaning is easier to plan when stock movement and occupied floor areas are understood in advance.
HandoverA final inspection provides a clear point for the client to identify any remaining or inaccessible area before the contractor leaves.
Project photograph

The archive photograph is valuable because it shows the floor, trolleys, storage equipment and circulation space together rather than presenting the clean as an abstract task.

What mattered on this job

Contractor capability had to fit the premises, not just the service label.

A supplier may be strong at floor cleaning but not high-level work, or capable at windows without being equipped for a large operational warehouse.

FareShare is useful because several disciplines were brought together inside one active facility. For procurement teams, that means the quotation should make each element, access assumption and handover responsibility visible.

Map the work areasSeparate warehouse floor, high-level, refrigeration, office, kitchen, carpet and glazing requirements.
Identify operating constraintsStock movements, loading, refrigeration, staff routes and shutdown periods should be visible before mobilisation.
Match access capabilityHigh-level areas may require different equipment and competence from ordinary floor-level cleaning.
Sequence the workPlan the order of cleaning so later activity does not immediately re-contaminate completed areas.
Inspect before hand-backUse a clear final review to capture missed, inaccessible or follow-up areas.
